Award

Unipath was awarded Top 2 for Best Overall Design at the 2024 Davis Design Fest. design-a-thon!

It was amazing meeting our judges from Meta, Netflix, Amazon, Lyft, and Experience Dynamics. I was also honored to hear that UniPath had the "best UX research" from Amy Whitney, Product Design Lead @Meta.

Topic

This product was initially designed for an 8-hour design-a-thon, focusing on the topic of education and career advancement. After the event, we were reached out by an individual to bring this design to life, and we are currently developing UniPath further.

Initial Vision

HOUR 1 OF 8

College students are always looking for connections with alumni to gain insight into their careers, and our team wanted to assist this aspect of students' college and careers by creating a comfortable space for students and alumni to chat.

With the time available, we shared a user survey to further understand the needs of students.

Pivoting To Reflect Research

HOUR 4 OF 8

However, with further research on competitors and seeking guidance from a mentor, I decided to lead the team to pivot from our initial direction with half the time remaining.

Recalling personal and peer experiences, our team recognizes that students also seek career opportunities through clubs and courses, but research methods for these two aspects are insufficient.

With 4 hours remaining, I conducted an in-person survey with the design-a-thon participants around us, asking the designers "How did you know that Davis Interactive was a UI/UX design organization?"

Research Insights

HOUR 5 OF 8

From my in-person survey of 32 students, I found that 53% of students use social media as their main method to conduct research for clubs.

Based on our competitive analysis, the school's club and course database shared outdated and minimal information, and the clubs' social media pages lacked qualitative and quantitative member voices.

Ideation & UI Design

HOUR 6 OF 8

I ideated solutions to students' restrictions with online research for classes and courses suitable for their careers, in which a student-sourced, club and course rating platform focused on career advancement would be the most effective solution (UniPath).

Final Product

HOUR 8 OF 8

UniPath is a crowd-sourced platform where students can find clubs and courses based on their career path and share their thoughts on how these clubs and courses impacted their college life and career advancement.
